He began on-air as a meteorologist in April 2007 at News 12 Traffic and Weather. Mike earned his Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal in 2011. In 2015, Mike won a New York Emmy for his weather contribution to the Brooklyn Midday Newscast after the February 14th snowstorm. In 2016, he won his first solo Emmy in the category on On-Camera Talent: Anchor – Weather. In addition to NY Emmy nominations in total, Mike received 1st place in New York State for excellence in weathercasting from the Associated Press in July 2017.
Mike regularly communicates the latest weather and climate research through invited public speaking events: he was the keynote speaker at the National Weather Association’s annual Broadcaster’s Conference in 2013, co-presented with NASA scientists at the American Meteorological Society’s conference, and has been an invited panelist to several talks for local civic organizations on climate change and well as international professional conferences. He took his experience as the incident command meteorologist since 2010 at the New York City Marathons to begin his own meteorological consulting firm in 2014, WeatherPrep, LLC. He is one of about a dozen meteorologists in the world to have both his Broadcast and Consulting Meteorologist certifications. His company performs forensic studies and publishes reports for law firms and insurance companies to use in expert witness testimony, as well as provide incident meteorology services for private clients. Mike left his TV job in New York in late 2017 to move to Italy and form a venture between WeatherPrep and with Centro Epson Meteo in Milano. The two companies collaborate, offering both short and long range climate change risk assessments to companies around the world both large and small.
Mike also consults with iPhone and Android app developers to create new weather apps such as Instaweather, InstaWatchFace and the Vaavud wind meter app. Mike has a minor in Italian studies, and reads, writes and speaks Italian fluently.
A full member of the AMS, founding member of Climate Without Borders, and member of the Italian Climate Network and AISAM (Italian Association of Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology), Mike is very active in professional organizations.
