Jay Trobec, Ph.D., is chief meteorologist at KELOLAND TV in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In addition to television duties, he has taught meteorology and physical climatology at South Dakota State University.
He is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society, and is an AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) and Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM). Jay served on the expert panel on communication at the World Climate Conference in Geneva (2009), attended the World Climate Conference in Paris (2015), and has testified about weather communication before the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee.
He has done numerous presentations at weather conferences in this country, and at meetings of the European Meteorological Society and France’s Forum International de la Météo.
Jay has won the weather anchor or weathercast Emmy Award for television stations in the Upper Midwest six times.
